Hold your head up, keep your head up, movin' on
Two weeks off is tooooo long. These kids did NOT want to go back and I don't blame them. I'm not gonna front, with them gone all day, that sinking feeling of not having a job suddenly came back with a vengeance. Not good. Looks like I'll be baking away my depression again sooner than I thought. Line up for sorrow & rage filled cupcakes, folks!
Regardless - this week it was back to biznass. Back to school. Back to homework. And back to our daily schedule. I have put off After Dinner Art since everyday was playday over the holidays. Once again, I am not needed since the Kid came up with this one all on his own.
I suspect the kids feel my sadness and since they want to make me happy - they know what momma likes. DONUTS. Hooray for...my fat a$$? So the Kid took a STACK of paper, (no joke it was like 30 pieces - thank god I buy it buy the ream) and cut out large donut shapes. He colored them all and then laid them out with signs for me to choose what I wanted:
My options were...Bat Glaze. (What? Your local bakery doesn't carry Batman glazed donuts? Your bakery sucks.) Color donut. (not sure what the means) Holiday colors. Maple Glaze. (my all time fave) And the ever present Chocolate Glaze.
As I chose my donuts he started to make a box out of paper to package them and I was like - no, no, no. In this house we use proper pink bakery boxes - WHAT ARE WE HEATHENS?? So I busted out one of my cupcakes boxes and folded it up for him to use.
I thought it was pretty creative for him to make a bakery concept made entirely out of paper, but since I have so much of it, he doesn't really have a choice. Good thing I got rid of my wood and band saw. Who knows what he'd come up with.
Speaking of donuts, I am ringing in 2010 with some of my own - they are paper, just like the Kid's. In the end his donuts were cute and caloric-ally great, but hardly satisfying. Man, I could really go for a real maple glazed right now. Resolution for 2010: teach the Kid to use the fryer...

Jenn, I love the donuts! And they are so low calorie! :) The Kid is a mini-you. - mary
He's awesome, just like his mama!
How sweet! So thoughtful of him and creative. And now I have an incredible craving for a donut. Where I'll find one in the valleys of Oakland at 11pm..? Yeah uh, not gonna happen.
Awesome kids, Jenn! Now I need to teach my toddler to make donuts. Have you tried the new BabyCakes downtown? Heard they have vegan donuts. I'm not a vegan, but definitely an equal-opportunity donut devourer.
Man, I love donuts more than I care to admit.
I love that your son made you paper donuts. My favorite was the bat glaze.
Where can I line up to buy your cupcakes? (Are the sorrow & rage filling optional?) Seriously, though, do you sell your cupcakes?

CUTE!! Creative for sure~
maybe the 'color' one is meant to represent a donut with sprinkles??
