The treehouse started to spin, it spun faster and faster

The Kid loves to read. I think it's because he's visual and likes to imagine stories and voices and make the words come to life in his head. My mom is a librarian and I always grew up reading - and in turn I always encourage my kids to read things that will push their imagination and make life fun.

The Kid loves books that fit right into his niche: adventure, excitement and imagination. Currently his fave by far are the Magic Tree House books by Mary Pope Osborn.

The books follow the adventures of Jack and Annie as they travel to new places via a 'magic tree house.' This series is taking off so much that they've put together a book tour where Jack and Annie come to life, as well as a stage show in the making.

The tour stopped by Los Angeles, so of course we had to go check it out. Also I happened to win Foodbuzz 24x24, where 24 people around the world are chosen to make a meal on one day. The meal I chose was to make a dinner influenced by the Magic Treehouse books! Check it out, here.

I dragged my favorite librarian the FoodLibrarian on this bookstore adventure with me. The book event was crazy! It was packed with very excited kids - let's just say wrangling 100s of kids into a tiny space and telling them to wait - ALWAYS a bad idea.

Chaos drives me nuts. Other people's children screaming and not listening to their parents, I can't handle it. And as opposed to the kids around us who were going ballistic, I was thankful that my kids just sat and read. I turned to the FoodLibrarian and told her I was going to lose it, then just in time, the show started. Whew.

As promised Jack and Annie appeared, sang, danced - and encouraged the kids to read. There was supposed to be an awesome tour bus too, sadly the store announced that the bus 'broke down in Canada'. Huh. This must be why they travel by treehouse. ~ahem~

We also ran into the Kid's teacher and he was thrilled to see her. She is also a big influence in his love of reading, so I was happy to see that she was there to support the event.

Afterwards the kids got to meet Jack and Annie and get their books stamped, as well as receive a 'reading passport'. It was a fun event and I'm glad to see that so many kids still love reading!
